Printed circuit boards are rolling off assembly lines all over the world. Lots of goodies are soldered onto the boards in combinations that make everything from washing machine controls, a stereo system or a computer for your automobile.
A printed circuit is called such because of the manufacturing process. The boards start out as a material coated with copper on one or both sides. A screen printer, much like the process used for making tee-shirts, prints the boards with a paint-like substance called "etch resist" (snicker, snicker: wanna' come see my etchings?). It also comes in a pen form for small projects.
