 Electrical current sensors are used to measure current. Current sensors work with a variety of current ranges, providing quick and accurate responses. They can be incorporated into larger instruments or they may be stand-alone sensing solutions, interfacing directly with a control circuit or data logger.

The most important specification is the range of current to be measured. Electrical current sensors can measure either AC
or DC current and can be either open or closed loop sensors. Open loop
clamp on AC current sensors are preferred in battery-powered applications. They typically take less power to operate and tend to have a higher ability to withstand overloads. Closed loop sensors typically offer faster response times with better linearity. They are often preferred in high frequency circuits such as switching power supplies, where they offer quick response and noise immunity. Ratings for current overload can be important, as they will determine the amount over the standard sensing level that the sensors can handle.
